An asteroid the size of Texas is headed straight for Earth and NASA believes that life as we know it will be over. They figure the rock will make impact in 18 days so they have little time to construct a good plan. The idea to have a team of astronauts land shuttles on the asteroid, drill deep inside and detonate a nuclear warhead is the best plan they could come up with. When Harry Stamper (Bruce Willis), the best deep sea oil driller in America, is approached to teach the astronauts how to drill, he determines that it should be HIS crew going up into space because they know the best about drilling. After a week of training, the biggest bunch of misfits get strapped in and head off to save the world.
Directed by Michael Bay (Pain & Gain, The Rock, Transformers), Armageddon is what you look for in a good summer blockbuster. It has action, it has drama, it has a giant all-star cast, but most of all, it is memorable! Without even mentioning that the Aerosmith hit song “I don’t Want to Miss a Thing” came from this movie, we all remember this movie for the ending. Most of the critics dog this movie for being too loud and unpredictable, but as a movie watcher, it is damn entertaining. It’s so entertaining that I have it in my personal top 100, mainly because of Bruce Willis and the emotional ending. It has plenty of heart and funny moments. For those of you that know, Michael Bay makes big and loud movies that aren’t considered the “best” films around, but everyone pays money to see them, and Armageddon should be one that you see! C0-starring Ben Affleck, Liv Tyler, Billy Bob Thornton, Steve Buscemi, Owen Wilson, Michael Clarke Duncan, Peter Stormare, Will Patton, William Fichtner, Keith David and Jason Isaacs.
9/10 Stars – It might be over-the-top, but it sure is fun and entertaining with a memorable ending!
