His Review:
Mike (Will Smith) and Marcus (Martin Lawrence) return for the sequel as a special batch of ecstasy hits the streets causing a gang war between Johnny Tapia (Jordi Molla) and Alexi (Peter Stormare). Caught in the middle of both the drug lords and Mike and Marcus is Marcus’ baby sister Syd (Gabrielle Union), who not only is investigating the drugs, but has been dating Mike behind Marcus’ back. Tons of action, gun fights, car chases and explosions follow the guys as they make their way to Cuba to catch the drug dealers.
Again directed by Michael Bay (The Island, Bad Boys, Armageddon), Bad Boys 2 follows his MO to the letter; simple story, all action! Will Smith and Martin Lawrence have the same chemistry throughout as they did in the first movie which is the only reason to see this. They joke and bicker with each other the whole movie as it goes from guns to cars to explosions. Gabrielle Union is a nice upgrade from the first as the female lead but isn’t in it as much as Tea Leoni was. Will Bad Boys 2 entertain and impress… sure it will, but that doesn’t put it in the same class as other action greats like Die Hard and Lethal Weapon. Co-starring Joe Pantoliano, and Theresa Randle.
7/10 Stars – Too long and mindless to get any higher a rating.
