His Review:
In Barrow, Alaska back in 1988, a family of gray whales were trapped in the ice, far from any open water. Even in freezing temperatures, they remain at a single location that is still open so they can breathe; bobbing in and out constantly. A local newsman Adam Carlson (John Krasinski) reports on the story and not long after, the story is reported by Peter Jennings, Tom Brokaw and David Letterman around the world. Rachael Kramer (Drew Barrymore), a local Greenpeace activist and Adam’s ex, gets involved with the situation as more and more people show up in Barrow to help the whales. As temperatures begin to drop further and the hole begins to freeze, Adam and Rachael must think fast before the whales drown.
Based on true events, Big Miracle is heart-felt warm family film that is great for kids and adults alike. I would best compare this movie to A Dolphin’s Tale, seeing as it is about helpless animals who are saved with the help of humans. It has an array of support actors such as Kristen Bell, Dermot Mulroney, John Michael Higgins, Stephen Root, Tim Blake Nelson, Vinessa Shaw, Rob Riggle, and Ted Danson. If you are an animal lover, a fan of inspirational family films, or just like the actors I named, then check out Big Miracle, you won’t be disappointed.
7/10 Stars – Emotional, inspirational and charming… but don’t expect anything spectacular (movie wise).
