Die Hard 2 (1990)
His Review:
A year after the events of the first film, John McClane (Bruce Willis) finds himself on Christmas Eve picking up his wife at Dulles Airport in Washington D.C.. It just so happens that South American criminal warlord General Esperanza is being flown into the same airport that very night and he has a crew ready for his escape from custody. Noticing some things out of the ordinary, John McClane decides to investigate and bad guys start dropping like flies as he single-handedly attempts to stop the warlord from getting away.
By far my least favorite of the 4 films (so far), Die Hard 2 is still full of action and suspense. I think the 2nd movie’s greatest downfall is having to follow the best action movie in history. There is no way it could have compared and been anywhere near as great as the first, but at least it didn’t suck horribly… it was just your run-of-the-mill action film starring Bruce Willis – which ain’t too shabby. I do like the little twist it has towards the end and the comedy it still a signature in the franchise. With the repeat use of the “Yippy Ky Yay” phrase, Die Hard 2 started the coin phrase into what it has become today! It is also the first time we see it used at the end right before the final downfall of the villain (as it is used in the 3rd and 4th films the same way). All in all, Die Hard 2 only suffers from being #2 to the best, but that means it still leaves us with an odd taste in our mouths.
9/10 Stars – A member of my favorite movie franchise, but still low man on the totem pole compared to the other 3.
