Drag Me to Hell (2009)
Directed by Sam Raimi (The Evil Dead, Army of Darkness, Spiderman), Drag Me to Hell is a suspense/horror/thriller that was a nice enjoyable surprise for me. It is about a young woman, Christine (Alison Lohman), who works at a bank in loans. When she has to deny a loan to an older woman who begs for the money, the older woman places a curse on her. When she tells her boyfriend (Justin Long) he dismisses her encounter, but she takes matters into her own hands by seeking out a seer (Dileep Rao). He fills her in on the curse and tells her that will take effect in 3 days if she doesn’t do exactly what he tells her.
Drag Me to Hell is modern yet simple in nature. The story isn’t too complex, but the movie is creepy and disturbing, especially at the film’s climax that will leave you shocked and bewildered. It’s hard to find good scary movies that will give me the chills due to the amount of horror video games that I play, and Drag Me to Hell sure did a great job of sticking in my memory. If I had a list of great creepy/eerie movies, this one would be in the top 10 I’m sure of it. See this movie if your want a great rush!
8/10 Stars – A clever horror/thriller that delivers.
