When FBI agent Sean Archer finally puts his long time nemesis, Caster Troy, in a coma, he learns that Caster has set a bomb somewhere in LA that can level the city. The only person who knows of the bomb’s location is Caster’s brother, Pollux. The only option for Archer is to remove the face off the comatose Troy and go undercover in the prison to get Pollux to talk. Everything is going fine until Archer, as Troy, get a visit from the real Castor Troy, but now wearing the new face, Archer’s, and informs him that anyone who knows about the swap is dead.
Directed by John Woo (Broken Arrow, Mission Impossible 2, Windtalkers), Face/Off is in a class of action that sets it in the elite category and appears on my personal top 100 list. Just like Die Hard and Terminator 2, ask any man and they will say they not only have seen Face/Off, but will rave about it. This is one of 3 movies released in a 2 year period (others were The Rock and Con/Air) that set Nicolas Cage into a genre he really never tackled but allowed him to show he could handle the roles. Pairing him with long time great John Travolta also helped make this movie shine. The real glory of the film is the ability to watch Nicolas Cage and John Travolta play both a good guy and bad guy in the same movie. Not to mention the supporting cast from Joan Allen, Alessandro Nivola, and Gina Gershon. If you haven’t seen this movie, what are you waiting for???
10/10 Stars – One of the best action films I’ve ever seen
