Fast Five (2011)
The idea behind Fast Five is to take all the people from the first 4 movies (minus the hick from Tokyo Drift) and add Dwayne “Rock” Johnson. Talk about one kick-ass ride that makes you feel like your watching Ocean’s 11 on wheels. Brian and Dom team up to clear everyone’s name and get enough money to be on their own. The only problem is, not only is a powerful drug lord after them, so is FBI agent Hobbs (The Rock). Tyrese Gibson, Ludacris, Sung Kang, Matt Schulze, Jordana Brewster all return to reprise their roles from earlier in the series. Not as dark as movies 1 and 4, but the action, charm and humor are all present here. Possibly the best of the series (so far), the ending leaves us knowing this won’t be the last of Brian, Dom or Hobbs.
8/10 Stars – Rivals the first as the best in the series, The Rock is a good add-on.
Fast Five brings together all the best from the whole series. Great characters, hot cars and the various types of driving (including drifting). It has a far more shiny new feel to it, very Hollywood than the other films which were more raw and dirty feeling. Still extremely enjoyable and a great addition to the series. And I have to say adding the Rock in all his muscular glory is an added bonus. It is nice to see him in an action role and NOT in a poorly made children’s movie as a tooth fairy etc. Even if you haven’t seen the previous 5 movies you can definitely enjoy Fast Five, but its of course much better if you have all the character back stories. Needless to say I am still in love with the fast cars and hot guys.
9/10 Stars – Adding The Rock was a stroke of brilliance to an already awesome movie!
