Grease is the popular American musical about the lives of a group of kids that go to Rydell High School. Bad boy Danny Zuko (John Travolta) and Good girl Sandy Olson (Olivia Newton-John) meet one summer on vacation and have a wonderful summer together on the beach. When the summer ends, each go their separate ways, heart-broken and sad. When school starts, Danny is surprised to see that Sandy is the new girl at the school and has to decide whether to be happy or keep up his bad boy image with the T Birds. This task wouldn’t be so hard if it wasn’t for the Pink Ladies trying to coax Sandy into what to do. That’s high school for ya!
Grease is the all-time high grossing musical to date and, in my opinion, is one that shocked me not being on the AFI Top 100. It has some of the most popular songs ever heard in a musical including “Greased Lightnin’,” “Your the One That I Want,” “We Go Together,” and “Summer Nights.” If you haven’t seen Grease by now, you should! It has great characters, charm, class and talent. The one appeal over many of the other musicals is that guys will like it, so girls, if you want your guy to start liking musicals, show them Grease (and Chicago). Along with Saturday Night Fever, Grease helped solidify John Travolta as the new up and coming young star of the late 70’s. Co-starring Stockard Channing, Jeff Conaway, and Didi Conn.
8/10 Stars – One of my favorite true musicals, unless you’re ok counting South Park…
Grease is a perfect date night movie. It has something for the guys – cars and hot chicks. And it has something for the girls – singing, dancing and cute boys. I grew up loving this movie. I can watch it over and over again and never get sick of it. The songs are phenomenal. The story is fabulous. You can’t go wrong! Really there isn’t anything I can say I don’t like about Grease.
10/10 Stars – Everyone now and in the future needs to see this movie!
