His Top 25 Movies of 2012
With the first year in the books of Reel and Unscripted, I saw many new movies in theatres then I ever have before. In a way I’m very glad because I saw movies that I probably never would have before this website. With probably 100-150 new 2012 movies reviewed this year, here is the count down for my best and enjoyable 25 films of the year.
A thought-provoking futuristic thriller that showcases 2 great leads, Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Bruce Willis (of course!)
24. Men in Black 3
A welcome installment after the disappointing 2nd film, brings a nice backstory for J and K that makes it a worth while watch!
23. Life of Pi
Wonderous and emotional, the Life of Pi tells a great story that is new and special… even if it feels long at times.
An animated children’s clay-mation movie that is both scary and funny. Great visuals and will entertain young and old!
A shocking and disturbing horror film that might be too cliché, but it’s damn creepy!
20. Jack Reacher
Thought provoking and action packed, Tom Cruise pulls off another thriller that entertains on all levels!
19. 21 Jump Street
Channing Tatum and Jonah Hill make an odd, strange and hilarious pair!
18. Ruby Sparks
Charming and special, this real-life couple brings these characters to life as they wear their emotions on their sleeves!
Massive, beautiful and tons of fun. A good start with more to come!
16. Zero Dark Thirty
A true and very dramatic real-life tale of the tracking and capturing of Osama Bin Laden. Part Political, Part Action, Pure Quality.
15. Django Unchained
A bold, bloody and satisfying Quentin Tarantino film that is full of quality acting and action.
A unique and interesting romance that showcase great performances by Bradley Cooper and Jennifer Lawrence!
13. End of Watch
Surprisingly funny and suspenseful, a powerful cop drama that has plenty of chemistry from its leads!
12. Killer Joe
Thrilling, darkly comedic, disturbing, and one hell of a performance by Matthew McConaughey!
Independent, original, quirky, heart-felt and special. This is one of those movies that gives depth to the characters and makes us care!
10. Moonrise Kingdom
Quirky, funny and special – something out of the ordinary that really works!
A freaking hilarious, dirty movie about 2 girls who discover love the best way… through friendship!
So not your typical horror film… in every way possible… not to mention freaking hilarious!
7. The Avengers
Even though only the last 45 minutes is what you paid to see, it’s the start of something great!
Might not be the best story, but the charm is through the freaking roof!
Might not be as great as the Dark Knight, but was powerful and anything by Christopher Nolan is worth it!
Suspenseful, educational and all-around well made. Argo have you met Oscar?
Original, special, funny, cute, charming and full of video game references… made by Disney!
Takes the comic book hero and makes him human with weaknesses and vulnerable moments… The “Batman Begins” for Spider-man!
Took me by surprise with a wonderful story – not to mention Jennifer Lawrence yet again!
There were several more that I thought were enjoyable and entertaining, but these were the ones that stood out and impressed me. What did you see this last year and loved? Comment below!
