Home Alone 2 (1992)
Directed by Christopher Columbus (Home Alone, Percy Jackson and the Olympians: The Lightning Thief, Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets) and written by John Hughs (The Breakfast Club, Pretty in Pink, Ferris Bueller’s Day Off), Home Alone 2 takes the same idea from the first movie and just changes the setting. Instead of Kevin (Macaulay Culkin)being left at home in Chicago this Christmas, he makes it to the airport with his family but get on the wrong plane. His family heads for Miami as Kevin gets to see the Big Apple in all its glory at Christmas time. Rejoining the party are our moronic burglars (Joe Pesci, Daniel Stern), the ex-Wet Bandits, now the Sticky Bandits, and they want their revenge on Kevin.
Ok so I know some people who think this one wasn’t that great, but in my opinion this is the epitome of a sequel; same characters, same actors, same concept in a new location with a couple of new characters. Just as the first movie, it appears on my personal top 100 list but many spots lower. The addition of Tim Curry and Rob Schneider as the hotel workers adds a lot of comedic value and the bird lady replaces the old scary guy from the first one as the voice of reason. Either way you view it, Home Alone 2 is the only true sequel and the first would not be completed without watching the 2nd one after. Co-starring Catherine O’Hara, Brenda Fricker, and John Heard.
10/10 Stars – Who out there in their late 20s/early 30s did own one of those voice recorders.
