Homefront, which is surprisingly adapted for the screen by Sylvester Stallone, is your typical middle of the road, action thriller. Plain and simple. Aside from the fact that Stallone wrote the screenplay for this movie there isn’t anything surprising or even exciting about the film. It is all pretty straight forward. You know the story from the beginning. You know what type of action there will be and you can anticipate the outcome. Well, that is assuming you have seen any other action film particularly one starring Statham. The story is fine, although I have a feeling the book it’s based on is far more robust. The dialogue lacks finesse but what do you expect from Stallone who is straight shooter with his writing. Take The Expendables – all of them – as your example of his style. There is something almost retro about the feel of the film. You will either like or hate this. Me, I can appreciate it for what it was meant to be. In terms of the rest of the film, Statham is well…Statham. He is always so cool, calm and collected in these action thriller roles he plays. This isn’t one of his best performances but it’s also not his worst for sure. Franco makes an interesting pseudo bad guy and the two leads mix well together in the few scenes they actually in together. There isn’t much else to say. If you don’t like action films then don’t bother even thinking about seeing Homefront because there isn’t anything for you here. If you do enjoy an action films then honestly you are better off picking up something else and just waiting to see this on Netflix. It wasn’t bad just not necessarily worth the cost of the movie ticket these days.
6/10 Stars – Nothing new here just another so-so action film.
Homefront is a total cookie-cutter action film that is unoriginal and offers nothing new. I’m actually surprised the film makers were able to get James Franco, Jason Statham, Winona Ryder and Kate Bosworth to make this dud of a movie. There is absolutely NOTHING memorable about Homefront and its mostly all dialogue. The action is weak and they spend more time trying to avoid fights than just kicking ass. It seems like everyone has to apologize after a fight… This is one to really just stay away from. Nothing clever or interesting is seen in this movie! Avoid!
5/10 Stars – Weak, uneventful and nothing memorable… AT ALL! Total “Cookie Cutter”
