Judge Dredd (1995)
His Review:
In a futuristic world where the “Judges” are the law and carry out justice as they see fit. When Judge Dredd (Sylvester Stallone) is set up by a mad man who can alter DNA samples, he is sent to jail for life. When given the opportunity, Dredd escapes with a man he sent away for an unjust amount of time (Rob Schneider) and looks to hunt down the man who set him up (Armand Assante).
Sometimes it is hard to elaborate just how bad a movie really is, but Judge Dredd is just uninspired. Based on a comic book series, there is nothing special here and the special effects/futuristic setting are just worn and tired. I would compare this movie to Spawn, which came out 2 years after Judge Dredd, due to its boring and stupid nature. There isn’t as much dirt and grim as we see in Spawn, but the world isn’t beautiful or well imagined by any means. The worse part is when you think it can’t get any worse, it shows us that it can. The ending is so bad you can no longer call it all laughable, but sad. A new Judge Dredd movie is coming out in 2012 called Dredd starring Karl Urban. Maybe it can save the character. Co-starring Diane Lane and Jurgen Prochnow.
4/10 Stars – Poorly constructed, acted and executed, Judge Dredd looks like a Total Recall reject 5 years later.
