Live and Let Die (1973)

Her Review:

Live and Let Die features Roger Moore in his first appearance as the hard to kill James Bond, 007.  For this installation Bond travels to the United States for a visit with Felix Leiter (David Hedison), oh and figuring out what exactly Kananga (Yaphet Kotto) is up to.  Mucking up the works for Bond’s adventure is the power of voodoo that Kananga and the natives use and believe in.  The bad guy seems to always be one step ahead of Bond so he is constantly trying to get out sticky situations.  Helping and hindering Bond in his endeavors are the beautiful Solitaire (Jane Seymour) and Rosie (Gloria Hendry).  Also starring Clifton James, Julius Harries, Earl Jolly Brown, Bernard Lee, Lois Maxwell, Roy Stewart.

Live and Let Die takes the James Bond series to a new level action wise.  While there have been car chases in past, Live and Let Die has a car chase leading a boat chase that brings a whole new level of destruction and entertainment to the film.  Roger Moore as Sean Connery’s replacement is perfect.  He exudes class, intelligence and ease in the role.  Jane Seymour is probably the most willing Bond girl int he series thus far, the cards having told her the two would be lovers.  Not my favorite Bond girl though, I like it when they have a little spine.  The only beef I have with this one is the death of the villan, funny but slightly hard believe.  Aside from that Live and Let Die is enjoyable entertainment.  And the title song written by Paul McCartney and Linda McCartney, provides an added bonus.

8/10 Stars – Roger Moore starts his reign as Bond off with a rush and boat race!
