Men in Black (1997)
Agent K and D are part of a secret organization called the Men In Black. Their purpose is to regular alien traffic to the planet Earth and to kick the bad ones out, kinda like “Customs” for the world. Agent K (Tommy Lee Jones) is growing old, but not as old as his partner Agent D. When a mission goes bad and one of the aliens almost kills a man, Agent K decides it is time to look for a new partner. When K learns of a New York cop who unknowingly ran down and almost captured an alien, he initiates contact. Unsure of his new endeavor, Agent J (Will Smith) and Agent K are sent on an assignment that ultimately sees them fighting against the biggest cockroach you’ve ever seen.
Men in Black came out when I was just 15 years old and was something I had never seen before. It is a perfect blend of comedy, action, eye-popping special effects (at the time), and adventure. The opposite personalities of Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones make the characters shine, not to mention the witty banter between them and the several “aliens” they come across. The script is fun, silly and never takes itself seriously, which for some, might be taken as juvenile. All in all, if you haven’t seen Men in Black yet, what are you waiting for??? Co-starring Rip Torn, Linda Fiorentino, Siobhan Fallon, Vincent D’Onofrio, and Tony Shalhoub.
8/10 Stars – Great family blockbuster that has a perfect blend of comedy and adventure.
I remember sitting and watching this movie with my Dad on DVD, it was fun! That is really the best way to describe Men in Black, FUN! You can’t not laugh at the banter between Agent K and Agent J and the outrageousness of the situations they find themselves in. I always did wonder how I would react if I was in Agent J’s shoes, realizing that not only are we not alone in the universe but my own planet was inhabited by aliens, some famous aliens too. Interesting thought process to be sure. MIB is a fantastic movie that everyone should see, even if the special effects are outdated now, the humour and action still hit the mark.
9/10 Stars – Fond memories and laugh out-loud jokes make this a film for everyone.
