Miracles from Heaven (2016)
When a 10 year old girl named Anna (Kylie Rogers) from Texas goes in and out of the hospital with a rare intestinal disease, things don’t look well for her. Her mother (Jennifer Garner) and father (Martin Henderson) are stressed to the max and she regularly must make a trip to Boston to see a specialist regarding her condition. As her mother watches her suffer from this disease, she begins to lose her faith, but when a freak accident happens to Anna, things begin to look up.
Miracles from Heaven is a faith based movie (and yes it is thrown in your face many times) that surrounds a real life family from Texas. As most of these movies are, this story can be overly cheesy at times, but it gets the message across. You can obviously tell that much of this movie is exaggerated or created for purposes of a movie, and thus, make the movie feel longer than it should. Jennifer Garner tries her best to keep this movie in her hands, but even she makes this movie cringe-worthy at times.
Just like many of the Disney movies, this story is the kind that when you are done watching it, you can’t help but think “well that’s nice.” I don’t feel moved by their situation, but I definitely can see where they are coming from. Having your child that near death can be frightening and it is a miracle that she is better, but how much of this was Hollywood?
When it is all said and done, this movie is “Hallmark movie” that snuck its way into the big theaters. It is over the top, heart-felt, a tear-jerker and corny as all get out. I wouldn’t call this movie bad by any means, but it sure isn’t one that I need to see again. This movie, like many people who want to knock on your door to cram religion down your throat, is too much at times. I’ll recommend other spiritual flicks. Co-starring Eugenio Derbez, Courtney Fansler, Brighton Sharbino, John Carroll Lynch, Queen Latifah, and Kelly Collins Lintz.
5/10 Stars – Wasn’t the most irritating faith based movies I’ve seen, but even Jennifer Garner could make me want to recommend this tear-jerker.
