Mr. Right (2016)
Martha (Anna Kendrick) is trying to cope with the abrupt end of a relationship by drinking herself silly, and that is when she meets Francis (Sam Rockwell). Martha and Francis are both awkward and strange and that is what allows them to have instant attraction to each other, however, what Anna doesn’t understand (even though Francis is quite honest with her) is that Francis is a hit-man who recently changed sides.
In what sounds and looks like a really stupid movie on paper, you can not under estimate the charm of Sam Rockwell. Ok ok, yes the first half of this idiotic action romantic comedy is stupid and eye-rolling, but once the action picks up and other characters are added, Mr. Right isn’t that bad a movie. It kept my attention and the 2 leads give us characters that we can care about. It is easy to watch, and Anna Kendrick and Sam Rockwell have pretty good chemistry. Not to mention, the supporting characters are just as weird as the rest so everything fits. If you saw The Way Way Back (and you should), this is the Sam Rockwell charm we are use to seeing!
Obviously, this movie isn’t going to catch a lot of attention, but if you find yourself renting this at home, you won’t be disappointed. It is quirky and loveable enough for me to say give it a shot, and it never takes itself seriously. Sit back and have an open mind! Co-starring Tim Roth, RZA, James Ransone, Katie Nehra, Michael Eklund, and Jaiden Kaine.
6/10 Stars – Nothing special but you gotta love the charm of Sam Rockwell in an action comedy that doesn’t take itself seriously.
