Rio (2011)
His Review:
Rio is a colorful, animated, family movie that is about a pet macaw named Blu (Jesse Eisenberg) who is taken to Rio de Janeiro to repopulate his species. Blu was found as a baby bird by Linda (Leslie Mann) and is very domesticated. He has a bed, toys and drinks coco. However, unlike other Macaws, Blu can not fly. When a man from Rio de Janeiro tells Linda that Blu is the last male of his species, they head to Brazil to meet Jewel (Anne Hathaway). Jewel is a Macaw like Blu although she is not happy to see him, but when they are kidnapped, they must work together, along with other animals in the city, to get Blu back to Linda.
Although Rio is nothing compared to Disney (characters or music), it is a good, colorful and charming movie. The supporting voice actors of George Lopez, Jamie Foxx, Will.i.am and Tracy Morgan do a good job and add much of the laughs. I would say Rio is up to par with movies such as Ice Age or Madagascar. It is good for adults and kids alike. Co-starring Jermaine Clement, Jane Lynch, Jake T. Austin and Wanda Sykes.
7/10 Stars – Enjoyable and colorful, but nothing extra special
Her Review:
It’s strange to think animated films like Rio are what the children I have one day will grow up watching. They are a far cry from the animated Disney films I grew up watching as a child. Not to say Rio is a bad film in comparison. In reality I don’t think you can actually compare anything to classic Disney movies like Beauty and the Beast, Little Mermaid, Aladdin, Lion King etc. Anyway back to Rio. Rio has a decent plot for a family film. What really makes it stand out however are the colors. The film is gorgeous to say the least. It is bright, vivid and right in line with what you would expect from a movie with the title Rio. This is the perfect family night film!
7/10 Stars – Pretty and entertaining. Play it for the kids
