RoboCop 2 (1990)
Due to the success of the Robocop project, Omnicorp wishes to make more units to transform the city into a safe place to live again, but when a new addictive drug called “Nuke” hits the streets, not even Robocop (Peter Weller) can handle the high amount of corruptions that looms. When one of the scientists decides to play both sides of the law, she puts the man behind the Nuke craze into a robot himself and gives Robocop a true threat to keep the city safe.
Usually movie sequels don’t get better than the first, and this is no exception. Sure Robocop 2 is more violent and the whole set-up isn’t there like it was in the first, but that doesn’t usually make for a better movie. I dunno what it is about Robocop, but his acting SUCKS! I mean give the guy a personality! He is bland and doesn’t really give the audience someone to truly care for because to us, he isn’t human. He looks pretty awesome though with his shiny sleek silver suit and visor. He looks so damn good that it baffles my mind as to why the other robot, the one with the bad guy in it, looks like something found in a scrapyard. Did they just not care about making the aspect of the movie look good too? It was an insult to me at how the special effects looked compared to the first. Speaking of effects in the movie, there is one scene in the movie that has been imprinted in my mind forever because I saw it as a kid as I was flipping channels and I’ll never forget it was in Robocop 2. It definitely isn’t kid friendly and it will even make adults cringe. It is truly another shocking moment for this franchise. Did I think Robocop 2 was a bad watch? No not really, but this one wasn’t as good compared to the first movie, so don’t expect something great! Co-starring Nancy Lewis, Dan O’Herlihy, Tom Noonan, Belinda Bauer, Gabriel Damon, Felton Perry, Galyn Gorg and Willard E. Pugh.
7/10 Stars – Violent enough to help you forget the weak story and lack of originality.
