The Fighter (2010)
The Fighter is the true story of boxer “Irish” Micky Ward (Mark Wahlberg) and his brother Dicky (Christian Bale). Micky is on the verge of going pro in the 1980′s but many people are influencing him in different ways. Micky’s mother (Melissa Leo) is his manager but her wishes are holding him back from making a big splash in the boxing world. Micky has loyalty to his brother, but when drugs get in the way and Dicky ends up in jail, Micky has to make choices as to his training and support. Micky soon falls for Charlene (Amy Adams) and her opinions are the one’s that Micky begins to listen to. Will Micky stay true to his family, or listen to his girlfriend, or both??? The Fighter was nominated for 7 Oscars, of which, Melissa Leo and Christain Bale won for their supporting roles. All of the acting in this movie is superb and Mark Wahlberg could have been nominated in my opinion as well. Unlike most oscar movies, The Fighter doesn’t have a depressing ending. It has a Rocky-style ending that leaves you feeling inspired. If you haven’t seen The Fighter yet, get yourself a copy.
