The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo (2011)
Directed by David Fincher (The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, Zodiac, Panic Room), The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo is the American remake of the 2009 Swedish film, and 2008 book by Stieg Larsson, of the same name. The story revolves around Mikael Blomkvisk (Daniel Craig) who is asked by Henrik Vanger (Christopher Plummer) to investigate the disappearance of his great niece , Harriett, some 40 years ago when she was just 16 years old. Throughout his investigation, Mikael discovers more women that were killed and he must find their connection to Harriett’s murder in order to make any progress. He is paired with Lisbeth Salander (Rooney Mara), a very different and gothic woman who is talented in hacking and finding unobtainable information. As Lisbeth and Mikael uncover the truth, they get caught up in more danger then they could have expected.
Just as you would have seen in many of David Fincher’s other films, The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo is very dark and sinister. It will shock and disturb, as well as entertain and impress. The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo was nominated for 5 Academy Awards in 2011, winning 1 for Best Editing. Rooney Mara nabbed one of those Oscar Nominations for her memorable portrayal of gothic-badass Lisbeth. Be prepared to feel as though you need to see the film a 2nd or 3rd time to fully understand everything that is presented to you as 158 minutes of run time sure can include a lot. Co-starring Stellan Skarsgard, Robin Wright, and Steven Berkoff.
8/10 Stars – Great modern mystery that should have 2 more sequels coming.
