The Hangover Part III (2013)
The Wolf pack is back together for one final adventure. After the death of Alan’s (Zach Galifianakis) father his family and friends come together for an intervention with Alan. He has gotten out of control and they are taking him to a safe place where he can be treated for his mental issues. On the way there however they are accosted by crime lord who kidnaps Doug (Justin Bartha) and demands that Alan, Stu (Ed Helms) and Phil (Bradley Cooper) find the annoying and elusive Mr. Chow (Ken Jeong) for him or else. Also starring John Goodman, Melissa McCarthy, Jeffrey Tambor, Heather Graham, Mike Epps, Sasha Barrese, Jamie Chung, Sondra Currie, Gillian Vigman, Oliver Cooper.
The Hangover Part III comes across as the last dying breath of franchise the studio just couldn’t let go because of greed! Honestly its like the wolf pack actors got older – which they did – and they just didn’t care enough. I don’t put all the blame on them however because if they had been given a better story to work with who knows. I mean Bradley Cooper is an Academy Nominated actor after all. The problem is that where the first two were painfully ridiculous and at times funny, this one made you just scratch your head and ask when does the painful ridiculous stuff start? I think I laughed maybe like once or twice the whole film…seriously. The only saving grace was Melissa McCarthy and her awkward yet touching scenes with Zach Galifianakis. I could see those two making a pretty darn funny movie together one of these days. Also, if the film could have used a bit more of John Goodman. He probably could have added some more humor, pizzazz or something to the film. I mean, I was on my phone playing that annoying game Candy Crush part of the time. That should tell you something. (And no it wasn’t bothering anyone else because there was no one else in my theater!) Sorry but they had every opportunity to go out with a bang here and instead its just a sad little fizzle of a firework that failed to ignite.
4/10 Stars – Not fresh and not near as funny or outrageous as the first two…thus painfully dies another movie franchise.
I thought the Hangover franchise was based off the fact that someone was having a HANGOVER! In the first and second movies, the Wolf Pack can’t manage their alcohol so they must retrace their steps to figure something out. Now they are kidnapped by some guy looking for another guy which had nothing to do with Stu, Alan, Phil or Doug at all! On top of that, no one has a hangover as Part 3 is more of a thriller with double crossing and half ass Mission Impossible espionage. I have to ask myself why did they need a 3rd movie at all?!?! The 2nd one sucked so take a hint! On a micro scale, the scenes are stupid and just not funny! Alan is actually more awkward and embarrassing than he even has, but unlike the other movies where it was funny, now it makes you shake your head (i.e. the giraffe). Bradley Cooper looks out of place as the guy who should have taken off a long time ago yet hang out with these morons. I see no reason to recommend this to anyone, especially fans of the first movie and I truly hope this is the last we see of the Wolf Pack.
4/10 Stars – Stupid, embarrassing, not funny and no hangovers!
