The Legend of Bagger Vance (2000)
His Review:
Rannulph Junah (Matt Damon) was a golf prodigy and a promising star, but when he went off to fight in World War I, he goes missing and the country mourns a great loss. Adele Invergordon (Charlize Theron) inherits her fathers ailing golf course after his suicide due to the depression and in order for her to increase business, she schedules an exhibition match between Bobby Jones (Joel Gretsch) and Walter Hagen (Bruce McGill); 2 golf legends at the time. She is urged by local business sponsors to add a 3rd local player and she seeks out Junah to emerge to play. He is only part of what he once was, but with help from the mysterious Bagger Vance (Will Smith) he is able to hold his own against the big boys of golf once again.
The Legend of Bagger Vance is an inspirational drama about life struggles and how, through the metaphor of golf, anything can be over come. The story is uplifting and is entertaining at the same time. I play golf and enjoy the game so it is a movie I hold in higher regard and have placed it on my personal top 100 list. The story can be a little slow at times, seeing as it is during the Great Depression, but once the golf match begins, it’s a different kind of tale.
9/10 Stars – Good actors, inspirational, uplifting and about golf.
