The Living Daylights (1987)

Her Review:

James Bond (Timothy Dalton) has returned and his current mission is to help Russian KGB office Georgi Koskov (Jeroen Krabbe) to defect to the west.  After successfully completing his mission the British intelligence community is more than shocked when Koskov is abducted.  Bond is sent after him to discover what is really going on.  Of course a woman is involved.  The gorgeous Kara (Maryam d’Abo) is in love with Koskov and so Bond uses this to his advantage to discover Koskov and the bigger plan in play.  Also starring Joe don Baker, John Rhys-Davies, Art Malik, Andreas Wisniewski, Thomas Wheatley, Desmond Llewelyn, Robert Brown, Geoffrey Keen, Caroline Bliss, John Terry.

The Living Daylights is probably one of the lesser known Bond films and for me one of the more dull ones as well. Not I have to say I am not a big fan of Timothy Dalton as Bond.  I just never really saw him as the character really so that tends to color my opinion a bit.  That aside you really do get the been there done that feel for this one.  There is nothing flashy or fun to draw you in.  In fact the focus of the whole thing seems to be this romance between Bond and Kara which lets face it, while overall the Bond films are rather chauvinistic toward women as you watch more you come to expect it so when you all the sudden you see Bond “wooing” a woman over an entire film it is kind of annoying.  Overall this is just another Bond film with more negative than positive if you ask me.

7/10 Stars – Bond is and isn’t his usual self in this one.  Frankly I was bored.
