The Monster (2016)
After a car accident on a rainy, secluded road, a mother and daughter are badly injured, but when help comes, a dark monster comes out of the shadows to kill anything that moves. The Monster isn’t your typical horror film, yet it really should have been. This movie is only 90 minutes long, but it goes overboard on the character development. The first twenty minutes of the movie shows us how horrible a mother this woman is to her daughter. She fights, yells and curses at her kid, and it really leaves a sour taste in your mouth. Once the horror aspect of the movie starts, you think, “good, the real movie is starting,” but for some reason, flashbacks continue to show us how bad this girls parents are. I’m sure the monster in this movie is some kind of metaphor, but the movie is so hard to watch that I don’t get it nor do I really care. If the characters had just been left alone and this movie been a pure man vs creature movie, it might have been better, but it also might be forgotten. Either way, The Monster was annoying and it made you really hate this mother. Don’t see it. Starring Zoe Kazan, Ella Ballentine, Scott Speedman, Mac Hickox, Aaron Douglas, and Christine Ebadi.
4/10 Stars – It takes itself way to seriously for it to be a good creature horror flick.
