The Pirates! Band of Misfits (2012)
His Review:
When Pirate Captain thinks he has a shot of winning the Pirate of the Year award after failing the previous 20 times, he discovers that he doesn’t have shot. 3 other candidates are meaner, flashier and steal more booty than Pirate Captain but he plans to change that. However, every ship he tries to rob has no booty. Soon Pirate Captain and his crew find Charles Darwin doing research on his ship and Darwin clues Pirate Captain in that his pet “parrot” is actually a thought-to-be-extinct Dodo bird. Pirate Captain figures this is the perfect moment to get fame and glory for his “discovery” and will surely get Pirate of the Year. The only problem is that Queen Victoria will be at the science awards, and she HATES pirates!
Made by the same people who did Wallace and Gromit and Flushed Away, Pirates! Band of Misfits is a claymation movie that is clean with few flaws in the animation. Just like the other movies I mentioned, this is not an animated movie with “hidden” adult humor or boarding on PG-13. It is 100% PG and for that it might make most adults a little bored and looking for the Shrek like jokes that never come. It has very few laugh out loud moments for adults but kids will love it for the animation and the silly antics of the characters. As an adult, unless your looking for a good “family” movie, I can recommend something a little more entertaining. Voice actors include Hugh Grant, Brendan Gleeson, David Tennant, Jermey Piven, Anton Yelchin, Selma Hayek and Imelda Staunton.
7/10 - Enjoyable and nice on the eyes, but feels a little empty and lacking true humor (my kind of humor that is).
