The World is Not Enough (1999)

Her Review:

Oil tycoon Robert King, friend to British Secret Service leader M, is murdered at headquarters and Bond (Pierce Brosnan) unknowingly delivered the reactive agent that caused the explosion.  M (Judi Dench) sends Bond to “protect” King’s daughter Electra (Sophie Marceau) who they believe is being hunted by her former kidnapper Renard (Robert Carlyle).  As Bond spends more time around Electra he discovers a deeper plot the expands beyond Renard and revolves around Electra and her need to dominate the world by being the sole supplier of oil to the east.  The kidnapping of M, a potential nuclear explosion, and Dr. Christmas Jones (Denise Richards) tagging along with Bond spells trouble like only 007 can experience.  Also starring Robbie Coltrane, Desmond Llewelyn, John Cleese, Maria Grazia Cucinotta, Samantha Bond, Bill Tanner, Colin Salmon, David Calder.

The World is Not Enough doesn’t live up to Brosnan’s previous film Tomorrow Never Dies, but it is mildly entertaining and certainly isn’t the worst of the Bond series but friends that isn’t saying much.  After a kick ass Bond girl in Tomorrow Never Dies, Denise Richards’ Bond girl is kind of half ass.  Sure she is decently pretty but they act like she is a tough cookie but doesn’t live up to the advertising.  Pierce Brosnan is decent, he has given better performances for sure.  This rendition is full of typical Bond action and dialogue but at a lower level than the viewers have come to expect.  Honestly a little boring especially if you have seen it before.

6/10 Stars – Feel free to skip unless you are a die hard Bond fan!
