You’ve Got Mail (1998)
Her Review:
Here is an oldie but goodie for you. Youve Got Mail has to be one of the best “meet cute” movies ever made. ”Meet cute” has been the staple for romantic comedies since the golden age of cinema. It is where the future happy couple meet in awkward situation or in a way that creates a misunderstanding. In You’ve Got Mail is set in the early days of AOL, when there was that glorious dial up sound followed by the ding of your virtual mail box. Joe Fox (Tom Hanks) and Kathleen Kelly (Meg Ryan) live and work within blocks of one another but they have only met online and don’t know each other’s true identities. And to make the meet cute complete when they do meet in real life it is as rivals since Fox’s family owns a large chain bookstore that put’s Kelly’s small children’s bookstore out of business. And both characters at the time they meet have significant others. As the movie progresses they each find themselves single, moving forward in life, and constantly thrown together which can only end one way…with true love
I love this movie. It is done by the fabulous Nora Ephron (Sleepless in Seattle, When Harry Met Sally). She is the queen of the romantic comedy genre and a well deserved title. You’ve Got Mail is a feel good love story that will warm your heart.
10/10 Stars – Call me a sap but I just LOVE this movie
