Zootopia is a grand city where animals of all kinds live together in harmony, whether they are predator or prey. Judy Hopps (Ginnifer Goodwin) is a young rabbit who has big dreams of being the first bunny police officer, but when she finally makes it, she is given parking duty! Her parents might be thrilled because she is safe, but Judy wants more, so she decides to work after hours on a missing otter case. Her first lead in the case is a con-artist Fox, Nick (Jason Bateman), who she met on the streets the day before. After blackmailing him into helping her, Judy and Nick go on a hunt for a missing otter that turns out to be something much bigger than they could have imagined.
In my opinion, when judging whether an animated movie is good or bad, age range must be taken into account. Is the movie good for both young and old? Will the adults who take their kids fall asleep or will they be interested from beginning to end? I can assure you that Zootopia is the kind of animated feature that adults will enjoy just as much as the kids. In fact, because of the mystery aspect of the movie, some of the younger kids might be lost with the content. I would say that kids under the age of 6 might not grasp the concept of the movie very well, but they will enjoy the colors and characters nonetheless.
Zootopia has everything an animated movie needs; great animation, great characters, plenty of color and a story that everyone will enjoy! The friendship between 2 unlikely animals teaches about discrimination and tolerance especially when the case becomes about predators vs prey. I thought Zootopia had plenty of heartfelt moments and it is charming as all get out. Jason Bateman should stick to animation because he is perfect as Nick. Speaking of characters, just as in any good animated movie, the characters here are likable and top notch.
The only negative thing I can say about Zootopia (and it is really a personal thing rather than a flaw) is that I guess what happened at the end. It kept me from giving this a 10, but seriously, this movie will be in the top 5 movies of the year I’m sure. I really enjoyed it that much and families are going to enjoy this from beginning to end! Co-starring the voices of Idris Elba, Jenny Slate, Nate Torrence, Bonnie Hun, Don Lake, Tommy Chong, J.K. Simmons, Octavia Spencer, Alan Tudyk, and Shakira.
9/10 Stars – Zootopia is colorful, fun, and charming with a story the whole family can enjoy.
